On 12/2/08, I went to my first fitness bootcamp. I didn’t know what to expect, I just knew I needed to exercise. I had no idea that that one decision would transform my life. For over a year, I’ve been going to bootcamp 5x a week, between 6-7am, no matter what. I only miss bootcamp if I’m sick, out of town or due to a circumstance beyond my immediate control (when my cat passed away or the battery in my truck died). Some days, I wake up exhausted, I have cramps or just don’t feel like going, but I go anyway and do the best I can. You see, once I give myself permission to miss simply becuase I don’t feel like going, it will be easier for me to miss the next time. Another thing I’ve learned is that by committing to bootcamp between 6-7am, I don’t have any competing commitments (aside from sleep).
Your challenge today is to develop a bootcamp mentaility for one key area of your life.
Here’s how I did it and how you can do it too:
- set yourself up for success - schedule this activity so it works with your life
- connect your activity to one of your personal values - take a look at how this activity serves you
- hold yourself accountable - continuosly track your progress
- get support - enlist the help of family and friends
- have fun - make the process enjoyable
Let me know how I can support you.
I’ll see you tomorrow!
